The House Republican tax bill is looking to eliminate the tax credit for adoptive parents. Adoption advocates, religious groups as well as House and Senate conservatives are opposed to eliminating the tax credit as it is considered "one of the government's most important pro-life policies," as stated by David French a senior fellow at the conservative National Review Institute.
Florida Governor Rick Scott is proposing $200 million funding for families who adopt children from foster care. This will go towards the recruitment of adoptive families, and towards the process of training and matching with children as well.
Kansas Department for Children and Families administrator Phyllis Gilmore to retire on December 1. This coincides with Governor Sam Brownback's transfer to become international ambassador of religious freedom and Lt. Governor Jeff Golyer to be sworn into office. No comment on who will be appointed interim DCF secretary.
