Florida Judge Cindy Lederman is retiring. She is known for handling notorious juvenile cases and advocating for gay adoption as well as bringing child welfare science into the courtroom. Through her time spent on the panels, committees and research projects with the National Academy of Sciences, Lederman began local research partnerships that have carried on to this day.

Kansas Department of Children and Families is lowering its hiring requirements so that applicants no longer need to be licensed social workers. This move has sparked concern by the Kansas National Association of Social Workers as they see loosening of requirements detrimental to workers who make life-changing decisions on a daily basis.

Massachusetts House of Representatives voted 137-14 to pass H. 4664, this bill is to protect LGBTQ youth from being exposed to abusive practices to change sexual orientation. It was sponsored by MassEquality, ACLU of Massachusetts, Boston Bar Association, Children's League of Massachusetts, Massachusetts Psychological Association, Massachusetts Psychiatric Society to name a few.
